How do I order a hat?

If you’re ready to order your Mariposa Hat, please visit our Custom Order Form to get the process started. If you’re not quite ready to order and still have questions, please send a message through the Contact page. Both of these options will help get the conversation started, and I’ll help guide you through the rest.

Once your order is confirmed, a non-refundable $200 deposit is required in order for the hat making process to begin. You can find this on the Store page.

How much does a custom hat cost?

A custom hat is priced based on the type of material you choose for your hat and starts at $650. Prices increase depending on felt type, weight, and customization.

When will I get my hat?

Custom hat timelines are based on the material selection and availability. Once you submit the Custom Order Form, you will be added to the queue and contacted for your consultation. Typical timelines can range from 2-6 months depending on your felt availability. Once your materials are ordered, we will have a more accurate picture of your timeline.

How do I measure my head?

All online orders require a fitting kit which will be sent to you. This allows us to get the size and shape of your hat just right and ensures a proper fit.

Using a soft measuring tape, measure around your head in the area where you like your hat to sit comfortably. This is about a half an inch above your ears and eyebrows and includes the bump on the back of your head. Please measure twice; not too tight, not too loose. If you don’t have a soft measuring tape, you can apply this same method using a string which can then be laid flat to measure.

If you already have hats that fit the way you love, please include their size and shape on your initial order inquiry.

What are my felt options?

Mariposa Hats uses the finest felts available, made right here in the US. Felts are available in Western weight or Dress weight with the option to choose from 100% Beaver fur, a 50/50 blend of Beaver and Rabbit, or 100% Nutria.

Beaver and Nutria offer similar qualities in terms of water resistance and durability, and come in both Western and Dress weight.

Weights

Western weight - stiffer and more durable, accommodating a wider brim.

Dress weight - softer and more flexible, accommodating a brim up to 3”. Dress weight comes in 100% Beaver and 100% Nutria.

Nutria dress weight - falls in between Western and Dress weights, accommodating a brim up to 3.5” - 4”.
